Have you ever been:
Following the sermon whenever the minister has raised a point where you have wished you could have said, “Stop, I would like you to clarify that last point?”
Reading the bible when you have come across a passage, which you either did not fully understand, or one, which appeared to contradict another passage?
Seeking guidance for the Christian approach to a particular issue, for example, abortion, divorce, homosexuality for either yourself or for someone else who has sought advice from you?
Wanting to share a concern, or have someone pray into a particular situation, but you were not sure who to approach and felt uncomfortable about doing so?
If one or more of these situations apply to you then joining a Home Group could be the right thing for you to do.
Our Home Group consists of a small number of people, typically between 8 and 12, who meet together on a regular basis to study God’s Word. At the core of each meeting is a Bible Study, which, through its interactive approach, provides the opportunity for a more detailed investigation and interrogation of the scripture than can be accommodated within the standard 20-minute sermon. In addition the meetings also provide an opportunity to share, in an atmosphere of trust, concerns, situation, worries etc which can be addressed in the communal prayer time.
The meetings are very informal – there are no questions which are considered to be ‘too silly’. It is recognized that we all have to learn and asking questions is a key part of the learning process.
There are perhaps a number of people who are concerned that the Home Group will become ‘mini churches within our Church’, isolated from the main body, or even ‘cliques’ where only people who are already friendly can join. This is most definitely not the case. As the existing groups grow, they will be regrouped so as to maintain a Group membership level around 8 – 12.
We currently have one Home Group, which meets on the first and third Thursday evening in the month at 8.00pm in Flo and John’s home.
What have you got to lose, why not give it a go? Talk to either Hazel or James – we would love to hear from you.
